You have to go with what works for you. If you are going to spend too much time or be too frustrated by a set up that doesn't work well then you need to change it. Just like on a standard set. I'd like to move my hi hat to the right eventually. For now I'm using a closed hat there. Once I save up en...

I've made some progress. For details please see my blog. I've put both shells together and I'm getting ready to cover the toms tomorrow. I made a trip to Rhythm Traders in Portland on Wednesday. I picked up some 12 inch cymbals that were on sale ($25.00 each) for the closed hi hat. They are not the ...

The compact bongo/conga setup sounds surprisingly like drums with a shell. They are just not as loud. I played a set at the local Guitar Center. The problem is they are very expensive. You can buy an intermediate set of congas with shells for about the same price. Too bad. They are compact and easy ...

Not sure if this would help as I haven't tried it. But while I was reading this thread I was thinking of the construction project Keith Cronin did. He has a 'combination drum' with a snare on top and a bass on bottom. He put a baffle between them and cut a large hole in the shell to project the bass...

I happen to have a spare bicycle cable in the garage and plenty of spare washers, nuts, bolts, etc. I would think somethi...
